"Ultimately" my goal is to start my own stock brokerage. I live in NY, and I was planning on taking the Series 66, but it looks like it isn’t worth anything unless I can get my series 7 (which requires sponsorship). What is the best way I can legally offer investment advice and make commissions or performance based fees? Can I start my own brokerage and sponsor myself, is that possible? If I can offer investment advice w/o the series 7, should I take the 66,65, or 63 (all of which DONT need sponsorship).

If user " A Nobody" answers how much money can you expect to spend if you open a brokerage? I would only plan on having -10million in client funds, so I wouldn’t need crazy expensive software.
